Default Daytona ECR

I was co-driver in an ITS car this weekend and got put in the wall just after the first lap. The owner qualified the car but wanted me to start the race???? so I had no time in the car prior to the race. Just before the incident the miata pulled out of line, waved at me and then pulled back in line. I had to lift so I did'nt hit him "supposed to be a freind". I proceed on the outside, he then decides to turn right and put me in the wall......... With the camera changing from front to rear its kinda shitty. Let me know what you guys think. Oh the first thing he said when I saw him was " Why did you run into the back of me " ...... I wanted to knock his teeth out his ass I had to walk away. http://youtube.com/user/TreetopFlyer88

So Mitchell, how soft is that safer barrier?
You know you can't punch peoples lights out, it's not sporting.
I know how you feel though, both Chas and I almost ran over the same porsche in our race.
Chuck
I gotta get spell check.

Default Yea, what a deal.

That was a pretty abrupt lane change by the driver ahead, unsure of why he suddenly steered up, but he obviously did not have situational awareness before changing lanes (abrupt moves in a tight pack of cars is always dangerous).

Maybe he was trying to avoid a possible incident by something ahead of him and instead caused an incident alongside of him.

Go kart racing is a great place to learn how to constantly maintain situational awareness. I love Kart racing just for that reason. It's ridiculously fast paced lane, braking and position changes. The guys I Shifter kart race with can change lanes, out brake and cut under in a split second and we never touch a wheel. We keep our eyes open all around us "SITUATIONAL AWARENESS IS NUMBER ONE PRIORITY" in kart racing..and all racing for that matter.

I have to believe he took his eyes off his outside mirror for too long and was not adjusting for your creeping closing rate.

He could've really gotten hurt with that move. Hitting your car with his rear quarter where he did...could've caused him to to rotate into the wall head on.

So he did not know you were there, it was an accident.

Not your deal Mitchell, nothing you could do.

Yeah this is a crappy deal.

Clearly the Miata didn't know you were there and was having a knee jerk reaction to the car in front of him, thinking he was going to slip by the outside of the honda when he touched his brakes.

This makes this of course, TOTALLY YOUR FAULT! , at least according to the GCR.

I'm paraphrasing, but the rule is something like: It is the responsibility of the overtaking driver to have the required ESP and clairvoyance to predict if the driver in front is by ignorance or by design going to initiate otherwise unpredictable contact and therefore make your passing attempt unsafe...

Oh, and in the future, I would take the camera off of you because if you show your emotion then you just became the aggressor....

My second thought about this is:

You lucky bastards, to have a track like this to run on and use! I must do this track! What's a 4500 mile round trip tow among friends, anyway...

Cheers

Hey Kyle, Laviene was going to come down this year but didn't make it. Ellis set a new track record of 2:08.6 something, then broke his Tremec. Third gear went, then second. Euebanks did a 2:08.8 something. That's like warp speed.
Me I was just running around watching the oil pressure gauge hanging at 20 psi on the banking, never had that before. Usually runs around 60 psi, I bet something is wrong.
Well, have plenty of time to pull it and check before the R-O's, I'm in.

Default Daytona

Hi Mitchell just saw this i have raced Daytona a lot first off in my Fiat 1608 cc Spider and more recently in my #$% horsepower Etype Jaguar.I have been both ends of the spectrum the slowest and the fastest you have to look out front and back at the same time, Now having said that i have raced with you only once but you seem to be looking. And after all it is spec Miata!
We are at Daytona next lets show em how its done.
PS And be kind give me a break i am 55.

Sean, don't count on it.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mitchell up at Nashville SARRC race. Great guy to race with.
I told him and Mark Reed both, they weren't supposed to pass the old man. I'm 54. Didn't work. They did anyway.
Of course, they didn't run into the back of me, either.

I think all that fits under the category of "That's Racing".

Mitch, I've seen you drive, you clearly know what your doing. After years of circle track racing accidents, at least you had a camera to reaffirm what happened. I cannot recall how many times I was suddenly in the infield or in the wall and never got the same story as to what happened. In my limited experience with SCCA, the drivers seem much more courteous and these incidents seem less common.

Just got back from my honeymoon. If everything goes well, I'll be at Daytona. Please don't laugh at me while your lapping me.

I was able to watch the video out the the miata and it clearly was a racing incident. Cars packed up inside of him and pushed him up into me. It could have been avoided two way's, the first is if my buddy did'nt pull up in front of me "just to wave" causing me to loose most of my momentum and second I could have been less aggressive trying to pass a large group of cars on the outside going into turn 1. Wait if I would have Qualified the car I would'nt have been back there. I will learn from this mistake and try not too let it arise agian.
