roll cage

its probably faster to ask then to try to find it on the scca website so here goes. do the asedans need a bar that goes against the firewall in the dash area? i am building a new car and my old one that i bought last year doesnt have one. thanks

You mean like a cross brace?

on the scca page i cant find a specific asedan roll cage set of rules. on a old set off rules i had with my old car it says that the asedan should follow the gt rules for roll cages. in their rules they mention that there should be a bar or part of the chasis that prevents the engine from coming in the drivers compartment. im reading that we need a bar from side to side under the dash to prevent this. or does the firewall count?

There must be a horizontal bar connecting the two forward downtubes. The firewall would be totally inadequate for protection.

in front of or behind the pedals? my downtubes are located between my seat and the pedals.

most cages I have seen seem to hover between the steering wheel and firewall .. somewhere in that area..but above the column..but really where you place the downtubes dictates where you connect. Further towards the firewall the downtubes are the lower the bar can go....

Are we allowed to have the cage extend into the engine bay through the firewall?

so the basics are 8 points back of the firewall ....two in the back .. the four that form the area behind and in front of the driver and the two that are for your feet. you can connect two (one on each side) from the downtubes THROUGH the firewall but CANNOT connect to the firewall.....you of course have to seal the area around the tubes and firewall.....

Here is a picture of Gebhardts Mustang, the exact bar you are talking about. His is behind the dash since his forward downtubes follow the A-pillar and go through the top of the dash.

My car has the bar in front of the dash, because the forward downtubes are in front of the dash. My next car will be done just like Gebhardts. My brother did his.
