Guys - At the risk of starting some controversy, 1 comment, 1 question:
Comment: This board has gone almost totally dead in 2018. There are no recent posts on almost any topic. This would not seem to indicate a healthy group. Why has everyone disappeared? There aren't even many recent ads for parts for sale. Question: Have you taken the time to answer the WDYT request? If not, please do so. I think that everyone wants the same thing, growth of this class. All ideas for growth need to be put on the table. Good luck to those of you heading to the runoffs! |

What Do You Think AS 1. #25256 (Club Racing Board) The Future of AS The CRB has been researching ideas to increase participation in AS and would like your feedback on the below questions regarding American Sedan. No decisions have been made, as the CRB is truly interested in your perspective. The below items would never be implemented all at once, but are truly intended to gain the pulse of the community in terms of potential change for the future. Please provide your feedback through the letter log system, crbscca.com. Note that all BOP would be based on data and the responsibility of the CRB.
1. Are you interested in AS moving to an FI option for every AS car? 2. Should AS Full Prep go to a larger wheel? If so, what size? 3. Should AS Full Prep go to larger diameter brake rotors? If so, what size? 4. Should AS have a spec tire to lower costs? If so, R-type compound? 100 Treadwear? 200 Treadwear? 5. Should AS allow more aerodynamics devices? If so, what would you recommend? 6. Should AS allow the participation of T2 pony cars (same years as AS) into the class? If so, should they come in “as is” or have changes such as ABS disabled, restrictor size changes, or weight changes? 7. Former AS drivers: Why do you not race anymore? What kinds of things would entice you to return? 8. Potential new AS drivers: What kinds of priorities are important for you to come into the class? |

I would recommend the same changes I have for years. No need for larger brakes and/or wheels for FP. Just more expense and puts the LP cars at a further disadvantage. Aero... why, cars don't need to be quicker and it adds expense. FI for all.... would likely confuse things even more. Want FI build a LP car. Spec tire... Hoosier R but give time to use up the As. What would I do make keep the LP rules limited, adjust to make the LP cars the over dog. To grow you need to be able to build a reasonably priced car that would be somewhat competitive. Why did I stop racing AS? Needless rule changes that put me at a disadvantage actual or perceived that would increase the cost of keeping up, friends that left the class, expense.

Can you please submit a letter with these thoughts! crbscca.com Thanks, Pam |

I send a letter but I thought I would respond to Tom's comments. In general I agree with Tom's thoughts but I have found that many of the rule changes have reduced my costs. While I thought the class needed a different direction I will admit that I think the rules are in a pretty good place. I do think we should consider some items that attract younger drivers, like aero and maybe 18x8 wheels. RP should be the path for FI. In general I think we need to do a better job of selling the class. To the fox body guys that stayed home, the only way to prove the extra weight was a mistake needs to show it on the track, if there is no data there is no proof.
Other than when I started, which those first couple of years were a blast, I had more fun this year than I have had in a long time. |

Fox body guy here, I won't spend the time and money to campaign the car to prove it's not competitive, I can do the math.

That doesn't prevent you from submitting a letter in response to the WDYT. As for the math, it is only part of the equation, as it were. Include systems engineering, differences from nose to tail that define advantages, what a top driver can do (shows what a well developed car can do), and data. If you don't look at what the best prepared cars and best drivers do, along with data, you have no valid answer. It is a complete process, much greater than math. Pam |

This is what I sent in.
Title: Response to WDYT #25256 Class: AS Request: 1. No. We already have a FI option, it's called LP 2. No. The DNA of AS is driver skill controlling high HP cars with limited traction. 3. No 4. We already do. It's called the Hoosier A7 and R7. Hoosier is the only maker of tires that covers all the sizes we need. 5. No. See #2 above. 6. No. See comments below. 7. NA 8. NA Most of the cars competing in AS are over 20 years old and the FP drive trains date back to technology from over 50 years ago!!!!!!! We are a vintage class. I look at this as a plus not a minus. Vintage racing is very popular in the USA. Embrace this fact, don't run away from it. Modern high tech V8 Pony cars have two classes to run in now T1 and T2. I would open up AS to Pony cars from the 60's and 70's also (heck our engines and transmissions date back to this era). Promote AS as a pre high tech class that emphasizes driver skill (no ABS, no computer traction control) and the ability to tune the engine without a laptop. |

Looks like Bryan may have set the lap record at Mid-Ohio. I dare to ask the question, Does this mean Fox cars can expect another penalty? I think my head would explode.
