If anyone is interested I found a great source for a 305 Chevy block. Go to speedwaymotors.com, they have 305 blocks that are fully machined, oven baked and shot peened, magnafluxed, converted to 4 bolt mains, with finish honed mains and .030" over bored cylinders, for $750. The part number is 910-99450.

Is that a Chevy casting, or from Wheeler?

It is a Chevy casting. I am not sure what the shipping cost will be. I have used Speedway for other items and their service is great.

If it's Chevy, it's good. If it is another manufacturer, like Dart, no go.

Hi folks. Been out a while. Hope to be back one of these days. Catching up on AS reading when I saw this post.
Having been on the not-so-fun end of tech issues I thought I'd point out something about this block and then let people decide for themselves if they want to use it. Jim (Wheeler) brings up a good point about casting numbers, and assuming it is a GM casting then here is another point to consider. I believe the current rules say that the GM block deck height has to be 9.007"-9.043". The Speedway block comes in just under that at 9.005". From the Speedway site under this block part number (91099450), Questions/Answers, Question #2: Q: What is the deck height? Asked on 11/14/2011 5:38:32 AM by from NY Answers (1) Know the answer? Answer this question A: This block has a deck height of 9.005" Answered on 11/14/2011 8:59:57 AM by Jason from Speedway I'm not sure how anyone in tech would measure this, but do you really want to find out? ![]() |

Damn, the devil is in the details. That being said, we changed the first gear ratio rule to allow a very good transmission into AS in view of the problems with Richmond Gears (now gone). I think something like this should be considered, given the fact that this would save a ton of money over trying to find a good, unmolested, block on which to spend a bunch of money for this level of prep.
Good catch, Bill. Are you going to race this year? wheel |

I wish I was going to be able to race this year but I currently can not afford to build a competitive AS engine. Maybe next year....
May I ask which transmission was allowed in due to the 1st gear ratio rule change? Thanks. |

The first gear on the Muncie were just barely outside the + or - rule. All the other gears were within spec. This comes from AutoGear and has the good Italian gears. By the way, I understand that Richmond is gone (bankrupt or just shut down, I'm not sure) and there will be no more new parts for the T-10. I may not have all the details correct. Pam knows a lot more about this than I do.

Rumors (unconfirmed) that Richmond, purchased by another company, has stopped selling T10 parts. I have no idea yea or nay, because I haven't tried to buy T10 parts.
If anyone else has any intel on this, please pass it along! Pam |

They were purchased by Motive Gear, There is no word if they are going to continue the T10 line. I believe they are looking at somethine new to replace the T10. That is what is going around the grape vine.
