Default Runoffs Report

Sunday --

Got here Saturday around lunch time easy (but long) drive, good setup, starting meeting people, looking forward to the Sunday practice day.

Danny went out yesterday first session, 6 laps, 4th gear exploded. We spent the rest of the day pulling our extra parts together and putting it back together. We had put that fourth gear in early August, a used one with one race on it. Had to disassemble everything and clean all parts with soap and water. Trans is back together, I don't like the clearances but indications are they will work. Car is still on jack stands, it has been pouring since about 5 last night. Qual today should be in the rain.

Our car is not completely back together, Danny and Doug put the trans up in while lying in a puddle of water but everything is not buttoned up. Rain should go through this early afternoon. We have decided to not try to make qual today. Don't know how many will.

Default Monday report

Qualifying was at 10 am in the rain/drying, so only about half the field went out. I don't know any times, but they should definitely improve today with sun and a bit warmer weather. I'm sure they are posted on scca.com

I also heard there is an Ipad or pod app for live timing but I know nothing about it.

We actually stopped working about 7 pm Sunday night and didn't have the trans totally back in the car, but there was so much water on the ground we decided to wait till Monday to finish. The weather indicated it wouldn't clear up till about lunch time and that was actually true.

So in the afternoon we got the trans back in, started the car on jack stands, ran it through the gears, then put it down and Danny took it around the paddock. It should be good to go for the 1:30 pm qualifying today.

In all, I had to replace the countershaft and input shaft and I used my backup built up main shaft (with 1, 2, and 3 on it fully assembled) because we suspected the mainshaft now has too much runout from the blast.

We'll see how the trans does today.

Wheel rolled his Firebird in Canada corner. He is ok and thinks the car can be fixed. Guess what he needs? Yep, REAR HATCH GLASS!

I see Tom SLoe has times in both T1 and AS which are qualifying on track together. Is he hopping out of one car mid-session, and then into the other
to get qual times for both classes??

Also, for those there, how is being in the same qual group as T1, STO working
out? Anyone getting a little extra lower time by drafting a T1 car at various
places on the track?

Yes, Sloe is jumping in and out of cars.

I personally did not think the T1 and STO and AS cars worked well together. I don't want to place blame anywhere, I just didn't think it worked well. There were several issues, no need to be specific, nuff said.

As for getting a tow from a T1 car, well... I think Danny GAVE a tow to a T1 car... I bet he wasn't the only one...

Trans hung together, still working on handling.

Back out tomorrow at 3:30, I think.

BTW, I heard at dinner that the 74 AS car was underweight at tech after the session. I have no confirmation other than an operating steward passing that along. I don't see it reflected in the results, though I was told that the qual times for today were removed.

Car is now fairly straight, thanks to Kopper and the rest of mike mcGinley's crew. Roof, door, hatch, right side all fubar. Windshield cracked while trying to straighten it all with floor jacks and 6x6's. Hatch sort of located. Know more in morning. Only one I know of for sure, is in my garage. I had rear brake lock up, and wheel hop. Went in at 91 mph, according to the audio on the iPhone video. He was narrating as he shot the various cars, and his buddy clocked them on radar..... "76...75...91. oops.

Jim,

Here's a Craigslist ad with a rear hatch for sale:

http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/pts/2607727638.html

West Bend is less than an hour from the track.

Here's another one in Sheboygan, right around the corner from the track:
