Default Greetings all.

This is what I'm working on.

It is in the shop for the cage install. Hoping it will go in AS but it has "issues" that may force me into STO.

And PLEASE let me keep my 10 spokes! It won't look right on Just-A-Camaro wheels.

Jerry

What are the issues Jerry? I don't see a Camaro being competitive in STO. Let us know what's up so maybe we can help.

You should be able to run the stock wheels in Restricted Prep (RP) as long as you maintain the stock brakes (at the wheel).

Hoping and looking forward to seeing you in AS!

It has a bad habit of the stock K member impacting and cracking the oil pan when driven hard on the street and on track days. The K member has been replaced with a BMR tubular and since I have not broken an oil pan. I'm afraid if I put yet another junkyard stock K member I'll go back to replacing oil pans after I oil down the track.

There is less than 1/2 clearance between the stock pan and k member on this car.

A couple of the local AS "characters" told me "Leave the BMR on it and come race. We won't say anything until you beat us!"

Jerry,

Real Suspension and after market motor mounts.

Also, as of right now, in 2013 LP car can change oil pans.

K member is front suspension piece, yes? Then it's legal to change as long as it uses the same pickup/ mounting points.

Same mounting points, same geometry. A little lighter. About the same stiffness. More oil pan clearance. Very little if any performance advantage. The drag racers like them because of the weight savings which for us is moot.

The problem I've been running into with after market oil pans has been they require the oil filter to be relocated. Finding a place in the engine bay with all the creature comfort equipment still in place was a chore. I'll see what room is available when all the AC stuff is removed.

BUT Hey, I've been driving and underpowered import since I joined so it may take me awhile to relearn how to drive a V8 Pony car before I start beating anyone.

You cannot replace the front cross member with an aftermarket unit. You can put in solid motor mounts and any oil pan. Solid mm solved header banging problems on the GenIII full prep car.

My bad, I thought you were talking about a bolt on suspension component, not the entire front cross member that everything mounts to.

When you actually prep the car, for LP AS or for STO, you will empty out most of the stuff in the engine bay that is not motor.

You will have plenty of room for remote oil filters.

Thumbs up Wheel size

OK, everyone, believe it or not, all your great conversation has made me recognize a deficiency in our ruleset. This is why I want all of you to be looking at the rules, so we don't make this kind of omission.

You all are correct that the rules say the RP cars can only use wheels bigger than 16X8 if it is in their spec line. And sure enough, except for the Caddy, the wheel sizes are NOT in the spec lines. So, our next update of the spec lines will have them.

Currently, for 2012, the RP cars are still tied to the T2 rules, and hence, there is a wheel size in the corresponding T2 spec line. But, unless we add those wheel sizes to our spec lines for 2013, well...

So, look for the next update to the rules and spec lines about mid-July. When you look at that update, the front page will pass along the changes we have made so you won't have to go doing a search and compare. I'll post here when they are up.

And thank you very much to all of you who have been surfacing this issue. This is definitely the kind of assistance and feedback the ASAC needs.

Pam

The Camaro could be made competitive in STO if built to the full extent of the rules and swap in the big motor. I just don't have the cubic dollars it would take to do it.

FYI,
STO will likely be scaled back a touch starting in 2014. With T1 being slowed down a little bit to open it up to lots of different cars (not just the C6 and rare Viper), STO may take on a new life.
