Let's face it, racing costs what racing costs. I know many racers who spend more on Spec Miata than I do on my American Sedan program. The changes that have been made to the AS rules, over the recent past, have actually lowered my season operating costs. Brakes, steel cranks (decades old rule) shaft rockers (huge saving in valve train reliability for pennies on the dollar). I really can't think of any major change that have taken place in the last ten years, since the Edelbrock heads brought parity between Ford and Chevy. At any rate, if you can't afford Formula Continental, consider FV or F500. If you can't afford ASedan, well, there is always IT, since AS is one of the most reasonable classes in racing. Or you can go with other sanctioning groups and race with whatever dyno sheet you can provide.
